Ban on civil helicopter flights from Colombo lifted

The Government has lifted the ban on domestic passenger helicopter flights from Colombo after 25 years.

Helicopters are now allowed to land at the Defense Ministry Grounds in Galle Face, according to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAASL).

Four local aviation operators named IWS Aviation, Senok Aviation, Sakurai Aviation and Daya Aviation have been granted permission to operate helicopter flights.

Over the past 25 years, the passenger flights operated from Ratmalana and Battaramulla.

The Government expects the new decision will facilitate tourism development in Colombo, a statement said.
