Biman Bangladesh to fly to Sri Lanka’s Colombo
ECONOMYEXT – Biman Bangladesh Airlines had been given the nod to fly to Sri Lanka’s this year, an official said, Director General of Civil Aviation H M C Nimalsiri said.
Biman is expected to start flying shortly he said.
Sri Lanka’s state-run Mihin Lanka, already flies to Dhaka from Colombo, and Biman would be the second airline to fly to Bangladesh.
Before Mihin, passengers had to fly to Thailand to go to Bangladesh. Bhutan’s Druk Air is still flying to Bangkok.
Nepal’s Himalayan will also start flying direct to Colombo from this year, boosting the position of Colombo as a regional hub.
Sri Lanka is also expanding its main airport which is operating beyond its capacity with work on a new terminal to begin late this year. (Colombo/July28/2016)
