ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s finance ministry said employees of state-owned enterprises will be given bonuses for 2017 with those still making losses entitled to the lowest amount, the announcement coming two months ahead of local government elections.
The highest bonus of Rs15,000 will be given to workers in SOEs making profits and had turned around from losses and had not paid other incentives, a statement said.
Bonuses of Rs13,500 will be given to workers in profitable SOEs that had already paid other incentives and Rs5,000 to those in SOEs which had reduced losses.
Employees in SOEs still making losses would be given bonuses of Rs3,000 on “sympathetic grounds”.
