Kingslake’s Dilshan Perera and Shalika Pituwala share insights on building a successful software company that helps manufacturers scale.
Manufacturing software specialist Kingslake’s Dilshan Perera, Vice President – Sales, and Shalika Pituwala, Vice President – Business Consulting, share their thoughts on shaping the future amidst an economic crisis and helping enterprises overcome adversity and scale.
Can you briefly take us through Kingslake’s journey and notable successes thus far?
From the outset, our mission has been to enable local manufacturers to excel, from product concept to design, manufacture, and delivery. Leveraging expertise and capabilities built up throughout our partnership with Infor, Progress, Siemens, Zebra and Aurea, we have actively supported diverse organizations in enhancing their efficiencies and expanding productivity – from value-added tea to furniture, rubber-based products, sophisticated electronics, high fashion apparel, elastics, packaging, plastics, moulds, tools and electrical devices, and glass. Our clients have generated sustainable profits due to enhanced efficiencies derived from our solutions and expertise.
Kingslake has been in the business of creating mission-critical software solutions for over 25 years. We continue to use that experience to build digital solutions that make manufacturers agile. The company delivers state-of-the-art solutions built with a mix of best-of-breed ERP systems, specialized software solutions and experienced dynamic consultants. Kingslake builds software that enables manufacturers to increase the visibility of their operations, be it customer service, inventory management, planning, procurement, manufacturing, engineering, HR, transport or finance. Our unrelenting focus on finding solutions to problems that our customers grapple with is a big reason why we are a successful company.
Tell us about your work. How is Kingslake helping enterprises to reimagine and reinvent themselves? What are the business problems you are trying to solve?
One of the biggest challenges that our clients face is a lack of end-toend visibility in the manufacturing process. With our fit-for-purpose software solutions, they can create a modern smart factory. It enables the manufacturing plant owners to have greater visibility in machine performance, supply chain, and employees, resulting in increased ROI.
Another area that we are focusing on is Advanced Planning and Scheduling to aid manufacturers in their daily and long-term planning process. It enables them to respond quickly and intelligently to unexpected changes while satisfying customer demands with shorter lead times. It also improves the synchronization of manufacturing processes and increases utilization by orchestrating efficient use of material, people and machines.
What is unique about the solutions you offer? What are the advantages and benefits your solutions can give enterprises?
While we are partnering with world-class solution providers such as Infor, Progress, Siemens, Zebra and Aurea, we have come up with our own set of unique solutions under our brand umbrella of KingslakeBlue.
The KingslakeBlue product suite comprises solutions for transportation, warehousing, HRM, cutting room planning, production execution and line balancing, tea exports and container optimization.
What are you doing to reassure your employees and keep them engaged and motivated to deliver above and beyond client expectations?
We have always been open with our staff – they are professionals. We are brutally honest, and as a result, they trust our actions to safeguard the business and ensure that we have never had a layoff in our 25+ year history. Also, there are no favourites or special treatment. Everyone is treated the same and as part of our family.
We have a supportive culture where we help our employees realize their potential. We are always attentive to our employees and make them feel comfortable in the workplace. We encourage continuous professional development, and employees get the opportunity to participate in various training and certification programmes with guidance from their respective team leaders. Considering the daily challenges we confront because of the economic crisis, we are continuing with the hybrid working model adopted during Covid19. Employees work a few days at the office and a few days from home. We are improving the hybrid work culture so the teams can continue to share knowledge, get to know each other and increase team productivity. We are currently working on transforming the office to support the new hybrid work paradigm by making it more of an environment to meet colleagues and customers in an informal and comfortable environment.
What are your plans for expansion and growth? How will you enable that growth?
We will continue to focus on what we do best, building innovative solutions to solve specific business problems for our clients.
We will improve our existing products that have great potential globally. We expect this push to give rise to global expansion and revenue growth.
It is an exciting time to be a solution provider in the manufacturing space amidst the unfolding economic challenges. We are confident of generating and sustaining growth because we will continue to concentrate on enhancing our competitive advantages.
We have always been cautious financially and prudently managing our cash flows. However, we are heading into an era of rising global inflation and rapidly changing trade dynamics. Global consumers and investors demand more ESG accountability, especially with climate change becoming a pressing concern. Kingslake can and will play an integral role in transforming the business world with technology. Therefore, we are optimistic about the future and the impact that we will have.
