China’s Chongqing Group keen on Sri Lanka’s Hambantota
ECONOMYNEXT – A Sri Lankan delegation led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has held talks with China’s Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Company, which has shown interest in developing Hambantota.
A statement on Wickremesinghe’s official visit to China said he would soon announce opportunities and incentives available for Chinese firms investing in the island.
He spoke during talks with officials of the Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Company, the largest provincial foreign trade and economic cooperation enterprise in China.
Chongqing Group Chairman Yu Yang said his company is ready to set up an industrial zone in southern Hambantota where Chinese firms have built a port.
Chinese firms want to set up tinned fish, gem and jewellery enterprises, and export goods warehousing in the industrial zone, he said.
Wickremesinghe is on an official visit to China to observe the development of large metropolises in the country.
