Chinese firm wins Sri Lanka river water control contract
ECONOMYNEXT – China Gezhouba Group Company Ltd. has won a water management contract in an irrigation program on Sri Lanka’s main Mahaweli river, a government spokesman said.
The contract is for the supply of water control and measuring facilities for the left bank and right bank canals and raising the height of the Minipe dam under the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Programme, Health Minister Rajitha Senaratna told a news conference.
The Cabinet of ministers this week approved the proposal by President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, for the contract which costs Rs 1,576.9 million.
