CID investigating Swiss embassy case – Bandula
Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena said today that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating the alleged abduction of a Swiss embassy employee.
“The CID has opened an investigation into whether something like this happened, how it happened and who was behind it, in order to reveal the truth,” Gunawardena told reporters this afternoon.
Asked about the absence of a police media division, the Minister said that the Defence Ministry will appoint a media spokesman for security forces as soon as President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is back from India.
Responding to a comment by United National Party (UNP) MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara this morning that the alleged exposing of 704 CID officers was a threat to national security, Gunawardena said the new government will not do anything to endanger national security.
“He should be reminded that what happened at Millennium City in Athurigiriya was a threat to national security, after which the country lost a record number of intelligence officials,” he said.
