Co-op stores to open soon as curfew is lifted
ECONOMYNEXT – Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has advised officials to ensure that food and other essential commodities are released to the market without any shortage.
A statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office states that the PM has instructed Secretary Gamini Senarath, during a phone call to take the necessary steps to distribute essential commodities to the market.
Accordingly, SATHOSA is currently taking measures to distribute essential food items from its main warehouses, while packaging and distribution activities continued today as well.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Co-operative Development and Registrar of Co-operative Societies Suvinda Singappuli has instructed the co-op stores to open to the public immediately after the curfew is over to provide essential commodities.
Further, Litro Gas is also making arrangements to distribute gas to the market without any shortage.
Chairman of Litro Gas Company Anil Koswatte said that the company has enough stocks of gas to meet the consumer demand and that steps have already been taken to distribute gas throughout the island. (Colombo/Mar21/2020)
