Complaint lodged against VIP security personnel who assaulted van driver – Ashu Marasinghe
UNP MP Ashu Marasinghe has lodged a complaint with Acting IGP (Inspector General of Police) against the VIP Security personnel who allegedly attacked a van on the Colombo-Kandy highway at Kalagedihena yesterday (18 July).
Marasinghe told journalists at Temple Trees this morning that he had met the Acting IGP prior to the press briefing and requested him to carry out legal action against the suspects, irrespective of their positions.
“When [the video that was shared widely on social media] was released, people assumed that it was a vehicle belonging to a politician, but the public should know that there are some politicians in this country who actually live the way people wish them to. The Acting IGP has handed over the case to the CCTV division at present and he promised me that he will take necessary action immediately,” Marsinghe said.
Writing to the Acting IGP, the MP has pointed out that the numbers of the vehicles involved in the incident are identified as CAG 0550 and CAD 8850.
“When we discussed the matter, we found out that those who were involved in the incident have no connection to politics. These are parties who thought they could enter politics through hooliganism. There is strong public opinion now against politics and their antics, so politicians should realise that they can’t politics anymore by spraying chilli powder or breaking chairs,” Marasinghe added.
Meanwhile, the Police have handed over the case to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) for further investigations.
