Coomaraswamy to quit as CBSL Governor
Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomarawsamy has decided to call it quits in December for personal reasons.
A news report appearing in Bloomberg quoted Dr. Coomeraswamy as saying that the recently concluded presidential election had no bearing on his decision.
The Governor had, according to the report, already submitted his resignation earlier this month. He is expected to chair his final monetary policy decision this Friday (29 Nov) and vacate his position on 20 December.
“I tended a letter of resignation on 4 November. It has nothing to do with elections and politics,” Bloomberg quoted him as saying, adding that the decision to quit had been “in the making” since last year.
However, it had been put on hold due to the 2018 political crisis and the Easter Sunday attacks this year, the report said.
