Costa Cruises begins Indian Ocean fortnightly cruises to Sri Lanka

ECONOMYNEXT – Italy-based Costa Cruises has kicked of the first of a series of fortnightly cruises to Western India, Maldives and Colombo with the first cruise ship sailing to Colombo carrying 1,739 passengers, agents Aitken Spence said.

“Aitken Spence Maritime has been aggressively promoting cruise calls to Colombo and are expecting several cruise operators in the following weeks,” Iqram Cuttilan, Managing Director of the Aitken Spence Maritime sector said in a statement.

“Aitken Spence Maritime will continue to offer comprehensive, synergised services to cruise operators that in turn will boost tourism in the country.”

Six Costa Cruises vessels with call at Colombo between November and December 2019. The first vessel, Costa Victoria called at Colombo on November 05.

“This operation will act as a key influencer for tourism, paving the way for other cruise operators to call at Sri Lankan Ports,” the company said.

The cruises are operated between Colombo, Maldives and Western Indian ports.

Over 700 passengers from the first vessel ‘Costa Victoria’ will visit Colombo city, Galle, Kandy other places of historical interest. (Colombo/Nov07/2019)
