Newly appointed Defence Ministry Secretary Major General Kamal Gunaratne has instructed Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickramaratne to work with extra vigilance and caution in carrying out security duties in the coming days.
According to the official website of the Defence Ministry, Major General Gunaratne wrote toWickramaratne yesterday (21 Nov) that “there should not be any undue fear among the public of any political revenge, abduction or disturbances can be caused by the political changes that have taken place in the country following the recent Presidential Election.”
Further, the Senior DIGs, SSPs, SPs, ASPs and OICs Police Stations of respective areas have been advised through acting IGP of Police to be more vigilant regarding the security of the country and that they are responsible for the security of their respective areas, the report said.
The statement also noted that according to the vision of the President, all arrangements have been made to maintain a peaceful environment in the country free of racial, religious and political differences so that people can carry on with their normal lives without any fear.
Security enforcement agencies have also been advised to strictly enforce the law, regardless of the status, against any persons or groups who may cause disturbance to peace, it added.
