Delft Island in Sri Lanka’s Jaffna to get tourist resort
Oct 30, 2014 (EconomyNext) – Sri Lanka’s Delft Island off the Jaffna peninsular in the northern Sri Lanka will soon see a 1,000 rupee tourist resort, investment promotions minister Lakshman Abeywardena asid.
Colombo based MMBL Leisure Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, is the promoter of the project, which is styled ‘The Palk Bay Resort,’ the minister said.
The resort will have 40 rooms.
The Deft Island is famous for its wild ponies. It was named Delft during the Dutch colonial period. The Tamil speaking natives of the peninsular call it Neduntheevu.
There is a daily ferry serviced to the island.
