Dengue threat on the rise; nearly 30,000 cases reported
A total of 29,123 dengue cases and 58 dengue deaths have been reported across the country as of yesterday (17 July), the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said.
The highest number of dengue cases reported from a district was from the Colombo district which reported 6,297 cases of the mosquito-borne disease this year.
The second-highest number of cases was reported from the Gampaha district with 3,825, while 2,724 dengue cases were reported from the Galle district, the third-highest.
According to Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) records, 1,234 dengue cases were reported in the municipality area during the same time period while a total of 5,063 dengue cases were reported from the other parts of Colombo.
This month alone, 3,023 dengue cases have been reported across the country thus far, the epidemiologists said.
