Director CID post changes hands for the third time in 11 months

ECONOMYNEXT – For the third time since the present government came to power the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department has been changed with Senior Superintendent of Police Nishantha de Zoysa coming through the revolving door.

De Zoysa has been moved from the post of Director of the department dealing with illegal funds by the Police Commission according to an order issued yesterday, official sources said.

The incumbent Director CID SSP Prasanna de Alwis goes back to his old job as the Director of the Terrorism Investigation Department, as per the order.

Shortly after the election of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa eleven months ago the Director CID at the time SP Shani Abeysekara was removed and demoted. Abeysekara sought to have the order revoked through the courts but was subsequently arrested and charged with fabricating evidence and remanded.

He was replaced by SSP W Tilakaratne who was head of the PSD during the time Mahinda Rajapaksa was President.

He was later moved back to the Ministerial Security Division.

SSP W D Thalduwa who is currently head of the TID has been moved to the Crimes Division as Director and SSP R L K Karunakalage has been removed as head of the Crimes Division and sent as Personal Assistant to the DIG South based in Matara.
