Driver who crashed into checkpoint killing soldier remanded

The driver of the mini lorry that crashed and killed an army soldier at the Wattappalai army checkpoint in Mullaitivu on Tuesday (16) was remanded till 25th April.

According to a statement issued by the Sri Lanka Army, the driver was produced to the Mullaitivu Magistrate Court by the Mulliyaweli police yesterday (17).

The driver, Thavarasa Yogeshwaran (41) of Kumarapuram, Mulliyaweli lost control of his speeding lorry and crashed against a military police sentry point near Wattapalai junction, killing one army soldier and injuring another soldier who is receiving treatment in hospital.
