ENTERPRISE DRAW: Large crowds came to visit Enterprise Sri Lanka exhibition when they were held in the South of Sri Lanka

ECONOMYNEXT – An exhibition aimed at building entrepreneurs will kick off in the northern Jaffna peninsular where subsidized credit will be available to entrepreneurs including those wanting to start businesses native to the area, the finance ministry said.

“New entrepreneurs who expect to develop industries which are native to Jaffna district such as in dustry, agricultural, fisheries and tourism sectors could be able to obtain loans at concessionary interest rates at this exhibition,” a statement said.

“Loans under concessionary interest rates starting from minimum of one hundred thousand up to 750 million rupees could be obtained and the educated young prospective entrepreneurs of Jaffna who are seeking for such an opportunity will be able to reap benefits from this scheme.”

This exhibition will be open for the public from 10 am to 12 midnight daily at Mutraweli in Jaffna from September 7 to September 10.

Bank of Ceylon, People’s Bank, National Lotteries Board and Development Lottery Board along with the Finance Ministry will be among the main sponsors.

Bank of Ceylon and People’s Bank have served the public and businessmen of the North and Vanni even when the areas were under Tamil Tiger control, those familiar with the matter say.

Checque clearing took days of weeks, but the two banks, along with the National Savings Bank were the financial lifeline that connected the region to both the rest of the island and abroad.

There will be 11 counters by state and private banks and government consulting services.

“Visitors to this exhibition can obtain the necessary information, instructions and guidance to apply for concessionary loans to start business ventures from self employment to small and medium scale projects from these special counters,” the finance ministry said.

There will also be stalls selling various goods to visitors including apparel and other items made by export companies.

Sri Lanka’s TV stations will also have mobile studios where viewers can meet on air talent and see programs are made.

Daily musical shows will be held where South Indian artists will also take part. (Colombo/Sept06/2019)
