Five suspected pickpockets of Sri Lanka origin arrested in Australia
ECONOMYNEXT – Police in Melbourne, Australia have arrested seven person including five from Sri Lanka in suspicion of pick pocketing, a media report said.
The organized gang was operating in public transport and shopping precincts of the central bank business district in Melbourne, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation said.
“We investigated a series of organised and often opportunistic pickpocketing and thefts which were occurring for approximately two months across the city, in shopping precincts and on trams and trains,” ABC quoted Chris O’Brien, a Sergeant at Melbourne Tasking Unit as saying.
Police had arrested three of the group on January 8 and four more this week. Five were from Sri Lanka and two were from India.
