Future UNP govt will cooperate with President only when he is right – SF
A future United National Front (UNF) government formed after the upcoming parliamentary election will cooperate with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa only when he is right, UNF MP Sarath Fonseka said.
Fonseka told reporters this morning that fully cooperating with the president upon a UNP victory would mean that the party accepts every decision he has made so far.
He also alluded to two UNP parliamentarians who had reportedly said they’re ready to form a government with the president and work together with him following the elections.
“But I’m not ready. We don’t need his help to form a government. We have our own policies, people and mechanisms, with which we will form a government to serve the people,” he said.
“If they want to work with the president they should join the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and work under his leadership which is not UNP voters expect from the party. If these MPs say such a thing on stage, people will hoot at them,” he added.
Fonseka further said that the opinion of the two MPs are not shared by a majority in the UNP-led alliance and its prime ministerial candidate Sajith Premadasa has only said he will support the President if he is willing to fulfill all pledges he had made to the people.
“He did not say he is willing to work together with the president,” he added.
