GMOA on strike today
The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) launched a 24 – hour island-wide strike action which commenced at 8 am today (22).
Speaking to RepublicNext, GMOA Secretary Dr Haritha Aluthge said that during the executive committee meeting which will be held at 11 am today, the association will decide as to whether the strike will be continued after 24 hours or not.
The GMOA threatened a strike last week over several demands including an immediate solution drug shortage and low-quality drugs in certain government hospitals.
The GMOA’s rival union the Government Medical Officers’ Forum (GMOF) denounced strike calling it based on “false charges and is politically motivated.”
GMOA says the strike will not be carried out at maternity hospitals, children’s hospitals, Maharagama Apeksha Hospital, specialized units of treatments for kidney patients and hospitals of the three armed forces.
