Gnanasara noticed to appear before court
Notice has been issued to the Bodu Bala Sena leader Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero and two Police officers by the Court of Appeal to appear before the court on November 8, over an alleged contempt of court case.
Shanthi Sriskandarasa, TNA MP, petitioned the court alleging that Gnanasara led a group of Monks who cremated the body of the chief incumbent of the Gurukanda Raja Maha Viharaya in Mullaitivu Kolamba Medhalankarakiththi Thero in the premises shared by the Buddhist temple and the Neeraviyadi Pillayar Kovil in violation of a court order issued by the local Magistrate.
The two police officers are included as respondents as the petitioner alleges that they did not act to enforce the court order.
The Right-Wing demagogue Gnanasara was sentenced to jail for six years for contempt of court after he threatened and insulted personnel inside the Gangodawila Magistrate’s court.
President Maithripala Sirisena pardoned and released him in May this year.
