Gotabaya Rajapaksa leading in declared Sri Lanka Presidential poll results
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka Podujana Party candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa is leading in declared results, helped by large majorities in Southern electorates, official results show.
With about 60 out of 208 results declared Rajapaksa had polled around 48 percent, against his rival Sajith Premadasa with 45 percent.
Premadasa posted large majorities in the Northern areas, leading the numbers at one time. Results from Colombo, where Premadasa has support, is still not out.
Sri Lanka is recovering from the effects of a suicide bombing in April and a economic downturn from a currency fall in 2018. (Colombo/Nov16/2019)
