Govt confirms Private Sector will not let go any employees due to COVID 19
ECONOMYNEXT- The Private sector Employers’ Union has agreed not to terminate any employee due to the financial crisis created in the country by COVID-19 pandemic, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardena said.
Speaking at the Cabinet briefing, on Thursday, May 14, he said that as a result of the lengthy discussions held between Minister of Foreign Relations, Skills Development, Employment & Labour Relations Dinesh Gunawardena and factory owners unions, The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC) and trade unions they were able to come to this agreement.
Accordingly, the Employers Union has agreed not to terminate any employee who was in employment while receiving EPF, salary through salary slips and who were under trust funds by employers.
Further, he said that the Employers’ Union had also agreed to pay 50% of the basic monthly salary or a minimum amount of Rs 14,500 each month until the sector resumes its work. (Colombo/May14/2020) Reported by Imesh Ranasinghe
