Gunmen kill one, injure 12 in Sri Lanka election violence
ECONOMYNEXT – At least one person was killed and 12-injured after gunmen shot at a group of people campaigning for Sri Lanka’s ruling United National Party in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo police said.
The gunmen had arrived in two vehicles and shot at the group who was engaging in election propaganda, killing a woman.
Sources said a senior minister had left the scene just before the shooting.
Sri Lanka is holding general election on August 17, and the campaign so far was relatively peaceful compared to earlier elections.
