Harsha De Silva apologises for mudslinging alllegations
Non Cabinet Minister Dr. Harsha De Silva yesterday (10) apologised for the alleged mudslinging incident against Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
A subordinate of the Minister was accused of distributing leaflets allegedly tarnishing the image of Rajapaksa, tucked away in promotional material from the campaign of National Democratic Front (NDF) candidate Sajith Premadasa in Kotte yesterday.
Addressing the media, the Minister insisted that he was completely unaware of the incident
“The people of this country are well aware that I never get involved in mud-slinging. When some residents informed me about the incident, I immediately went to the relevant area and advised the [subordinate] to stop what they were doing. This happened without my knowledge, but someone who involved with my political work has done it,” De Silva said.
“I don’t know why they did it, whether it was done unintentionally or not. But I request the relevant authorities to take action in this regard. I will not intervene. This is completely against my conscience and I unconditionally apologise to all who were inconvenienced,” he added.
