High-quality rice for rural children
Nutrient-rich rice will be distributed among children in rural schools as part of a fresh Government initiative to combat malnutrition, Minister of Agriculture P. Harrison said.
School children in the Anuradhapura and Thambuththegama zones will receive high-quality rice free of charge through the first stage of the programme, the Minister said, speaking at an event held at the Sigiriya Village Resort yesterday (24).
According to a statement, the event was held to educate Ministry officials on its ‘Sahal Sabalakarana’ (producing high quality rice) project.
The programme has been implemented together with the World Food Programme and National Food Promotion Board with the objective of improving the health of school children.
