Hybrid seeds, predatory mites to raise Sri Lanka coconut crop
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Plantation Industries Ministry has got approval for new projects to improve coconut and rubber cultivation and revive production, a government spokesman said.
The projects include production of hybrid coconut seeds, production and distribution of predatory mites to control mite damage and construction of efficient modern smoke houses for drying rubber.
The Cabinet of ministers this week approved the new projects to be implemented from year 2019.
The information office said export of products using tea, rubber and coconut generated earnings of Rs.457.85 billion in 2017.
