IGP, former Treasury Secretary ordered to appear in court
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara and former Treasury Secretary P. B. Jayasundara have been issued to appear before a Permanent High Court-at-Bar on May 13.
The notice was issued yesterday for the two officials to give evidence in a case filed against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Chief of Staff Gamini Sedara Senarath and two others.
The defence had named IGP Jayasundara and the former Treasury Secretary as defence witnesses in the case. The trial-at-bar bench comprising High Court Judges Sampath Abeykoon (President), Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne ordered the defence witnesses to be present in court on the next trial date.
The Permanent High Court-at-Bar decided to proceed with a further trial against former Former Presidential Chief of Staff Senarath, former Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Managing Director Piyadasa Kudabalage and Lasantha Bandara.
The Attorney General had filed indictments against the three accused for illegally transferring of Rs. 500 million from Litro Gas to Canwill Holdings Pvt Limited.
