India builds 27,000 houses in Sri Lanka
COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – India has built 27,000 houses in Sri Lanka by end 2014 as part of a 250 million dollar grant aid project targeting the re-building of 45,000 houses.
India’s High Commission (embassy) in Colombo said during the year 16,000 houses were constructed with 14,555 houses were constructed in the war ravaged Northern Province and 1,447 in the Eastern Province.
India expects to build a total of 45,000 houses through the project.
India is giving 550,000 to each recipient to build their house in an ‘owner-driven’ model.
In 2005, India is planning to complete the balance 19,000 houses.
