Indian Minister meets Sajith and invites him to India
ECONOMYNEXT – The visiting External Affairs Minister of India Dr Subrahmaniyam Jaishankar met Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday and extended an invitation to him to visit India, Premadasa’s office said in a statement.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on the long-standing historical ties between the two countries, the statement added.
Premadasa thanked India for its recent support in building houses in Sri Lanka and recalled that a village had been named after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Opposition Leader also thanked the Indian government for its support for the ‘Suva Seriya’ Ambulance service.
Jaishankar also called on former Prime Minister and United National Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at his home.
Wickremesinghe’s office said the two leaders discussed the Covid pandemic at length and Sri Lanka’s request to India for vaccines.
The Indian Minister also had a meeting with MPs from the Tamil National Alliance before leaving for India. (Colombo, January 7, 2021)
