COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – India remained the top source of visitors to Sri Lanka in June 2015, accounting for almost a quarter of traffic, with China coming second, data from the tourism office showed.
The number of arrivals from India surged almost 30 percent to 25,860 in June from a year ago and accounted for 27 percent of visitors in the January- June 2015 period.
Arrivals from China shot up 86 percent to 15,487 in June and are up 81 percent so far this year from the year before.
Arrivals from the traditional markets in Western Europe grew steadily with the UK up 10 percent to 8,580 and Germany up 31 percent to 5,649.
But arrivals from the Middle East fell with Saudi Arabia, the main regional source, down 47 percent to 2,321.
