Indrajith Coomaraswamy appointed director of Sri Lanka’s Dialog Axiata
ECONOMYNEXT – Indrajit Coomaraswamy, a former Sri Lanka central bank governor and economic affairs director at the Commonwealth Secretariat has been appointed director of Dialog Axiata, a publicly traded telecom firm.
Coomaraswamy has over 40 years of experience in policy making and providing economic advisory services, on both macroeconomic and structural issues at national and intergovernmental levels, the firm said in a stock exchange filing.
He started his career in the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in 1974 and worked in the Economic Research, Statistics and Bank Supervision Departments of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka until 1989.
From 1990 to 2008, he held several senior positions at the Commonwealth Secretariat, including Director, Economic Affairs Division.
He was Sri Lanka’s 14th Governor of the Central Bank from July 2016 to December 2019.
He now serves on the Board of Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) PLC as an Independent, Non-Executive Director and is also Chairman of Lynear Wealth Management.
He holds a B.A. (Hons) degree from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom and a DPhil degree from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom. In addition, he has represented and led the Sri Lanka National Rugby team and has also played First Class Cricket in Sri Lanka. (Colombo/Feb02/2021)
