Interpol assistance sought to find the mastermind behind Heroin smuggling – Police
ECONOMYNEXT – The Sri Lanka Police have sought Interpol assistance to trace the alleged mastermind behind the smuggling of 100 Kg of Heroin into the country and is said to be currently in Italy, Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The large haul of Heroin was discovered by a Special Task Force team in Polathumodera near Weligama last night and three persons were arrested, in this connection, Rohana told reporters today November 21.
“The arrests and the detection is the culmination of five months of hard work by multiple police teams which conducted surveillance and investigations,” Rohana said.
“We believe that this large quantity of the drug was smuggled in by sea and our information is that the mastermind behind this is resident in Italy at present,” Rohana said.
The Police will apply to the court to hold the three suspects in their custody for a week so that they can be questioned he added.
The investigation is now with the Police Narcotics Bureau, he said and the drugs are also placed with the Bureau, he said. (Colombo, November 21, 2020)
