JVP protests deforestation in Sri Lanka
ECONOMYNEXT – The opposition Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) organised a protest against alleged large-scale deforestation in Sri Lanka today.
The protest was held in front of the Colombo Fort railway station this afternoon.
The protestors, led by party leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake and other current and former JVP MPs, walked from the Technical Junction in Maradana to the Fort railway station demonstrating placards and banners.
Some protestors were seen wearing oxygen masks attached to plants hanging on their backs, in an attempt to show the consequences of deforestation.
