Letter to Pope criticising Cardinal is fake – Mangala
Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera is denying that he wrote a letter to Pope Francis criticizing Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.
On his official Twitter account, Samaraweera denounced the letter that was circulating on Social Media as a fake.
In the letter Samaraweera accuses the Cardinal of supporting Athuraliye Rathana Thero.
The Monk staged a hunger strike in front in Kandy to “force the resignation of Muslim ministers from the Sri Lankan government.”
It also states that there are no legal cases against these Muslim ministers and the only reason to oppose them is that they are Muslims.
The letter then accuses the Cardinal of complaining about the government’s decision to advise the security forces against checking Muslim houses continuously.
The letter says that the Cardinal had asked to check the houses of Muslims “with no regard for their privacy.”
Further, the letter states that the Cardinal has proclaimed that Sri Lanka is a Sinhala Buddhist country without facts or evidence challenging the beliefs of the Catholic Church that the whole world belongs to God.
