Maithripala Sirisena never asked for co-leadership-Dayasiri

ANGRY AND UPSET – SLFP General Secretary is upset at the attacks launched against his party by allies in the SLPP

ECONOMYNEXT – Maithripala Sirisena never asked for Co-leadership in the SLFP-SLPP alliance, says the General Secretary of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Dayasiri Jayasekara.

He told reporters Tuesday it is sad that people who comment on it doesn’t actually know anything about it.

The State Minister added that it was the SLPP who proposed a Co-leadership because of the circumstance that existed when the alliance was formed.

“Because before signing the agreement the current leader of SLFP Maithripala Sirisena was the President, current Prime Minister and the leader of SLPP Mahinda Rajapaksa was then the opposition the leader and current President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was just a presidential candidate,” he said.

Also, he said since there has been a change of circumstances now when compared to the days when the initial discussions to form the alliance took place with Basil Rajapaksa, Dullas Alahapperuma and G.L. Peiris problems about the positions can be sorted out through discussions.

“There is no need to talk about in public that they are not willing to accept it,” he added. (Colombo, February 11, 2020)
