Maldivian government releases Sri Lankan fishermen
Twenty-one Sri Lankan fishermen who were held by the Maldivian government are returning home for Avurudu tonight, according to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development.
The ministry said that the Maldivian government decided to release the fishermen after discussions held with the Sri Lankan government.
The fishermen were arrested and detained at a camp along with four fishing vessels when they were returning to Sri Lanka after fishing in the Arabian Sea.
The Fisheries Department is allocating Rs1.6 million for air tickets, food, and other facilities for the fishermen.
