Mangala Sri Lanka finance minister, Arjuna Petroleum, Samarasinghe Ports
ECONOMYNEXT – Mangala Samaraweera has been appointed Sri Lanka’s Finance and Mass Media minister in a cabinet re-shuffle by President Maithripala Sirisena. and ex-Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake as Miniser of Foreign Affairs.
"This Cabinet reshuffle will provide a new impetus to Sri Lanka’s development," President Sirisena said in a twitter.com message
Mahinda Samarasinghe has been made Ports and Shipping minister and Arjuna Ranatunga as Petroleum Resources Development minister. Ranatunga fought a battle to revise a planned deal to sell Hambantota Port to China, which was viewed as badly negotiated or corrupt by some critics.
Ex-Petroleum minister Chandima Weerakkody, where a new trade union instigated a strike over a planned joint venure with India, has been appointed to the vocational training portfolio.
Tilak Marapone, who was ousted in controversial circumstances, has been brought back as the minister of Development Affairs.
The land portfolio has been given to Gayantha Karunatilake, who was already the minister for Parlaimentary Affairs after he lost the Media portfolio.
John Seneviratne is minister of Labour and Sabaragamuwa Development, S B Dissanayake is Social Empowerment and Upcountry Developement minister, and Mahinda Amaraweera has been made state minister for Mahaweli Development.
