Meaningful devolution will support peace, inclusive progress in Sri Lanka: India envoy

SUPPORT: India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka laying the foundation stone for 144 housing units at Madhu Church.

ECONOMYNEXT – Commitments made by the government of Sri Lanka for equality and justice for the Tamil community through meaningful devolution will contribute to peace, reconciliation and inclusive progress, India’s High Commissioner Gopal Baglay had said.

The High Commissioner met political leaders of the Northern and Eastern provinces as part of a visit to the area.

“In all these meetings, Tamil leaders sought further assistance for infrastructural development, more economic investment and additional projects under grant assistance for development cooperation from India in the Province,” the Indian High Commission said in a statement.

“The High Commissioner assured his interlocutors of continued cooperation from India in these spheres.

“He highlighted India’s long-standing cooperation and commitment to the development of the Northern and Eastern Provinces in accordance with the requirements of the people and priorities set by their elected representatives.”

The High Commissioner had met Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) MP Kulasingam Dhileeban, a 15-member Tamil National Alliance delegation led by President of ITAK Mavai Senathiraja.
