Cabinet has decided to strengthen institutions providing Mental Health services in Sri Lanka.
On Tuesday (2) the Cabinet approved the construction of a Mental Health Units in the Kandy Teaching hospital and the Chilaw National Hospital.
The costs will be Rs 503 million for the Kandy Unit and Rs 213.8 for the CHilaw Unit.
A Press release issued from the Information Department stated that approximately 10% of Sri Lankans suffer from mental health disorders, but less than half of them get medical help.
It added that the Health Ministry expects these figures to rise in the future.
Following the revelations made, the government now turns its focus on to developing mental health services in Sri Lanka, fostering healthier citizens in the country.
