Muslim Community suffered due to Easter attacks-Mahinda
Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa says it is the Muslim community that suffered the most due to the terrorist attacks on Easter Sunday.
He said that it is the responsibility of the Muslim politicians and religious leaders to rehabilitate extremist members of the community.
Rajapaksa made these remarks at the ‘Iti Pahan Wata’ event organised by the Podu Jana Peramuna to mark the second month after Easter attacks held at the Viharamaha Devi Open air theatre on Friday (21).
He also said that it can be seen that the government has been safeguarding themselves by passing the responsibilities to lower officials without themselves taking any responsibilities.
“People are now in fear and no statement have being heard from the government saying that in the future no such attacks would take place again,” he said.
Rajapaksa also said that if the government and its ministers had known about an attack on churches before, they had the responsibility of informing the Cardinal or clergy about it.
Further he said that some of the ministers in the opposition got the information that some schools are going to be attacked, “so we told this in the parliament, then people didn’t send their children to schools but, no attack happen so then they blamed us that we are trying to create terror among the people,”
“So we intervene to take the children back to school,” Rajapaksa said.
“ In the future, we should go ahead with a stable government, brave leadership and with a leader who loves the people of the country,” told Rajapaksa.
