ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena will sign bilateral tourism and defence agreements and meet the President of the Asian Development Bank in Manila, where the agency is headquartered, during an official visit to the Philippines.
President Sirisena departed on a four day visit to Manila on January 15, where he is due to ink agreements to boost tourism and agriculture as well as defence and education co-operation
He will have bilateral talks with controversial Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, under whose rule extra judicial killings of drug addicts and pushers have taken place.
President Sirisena will also meet ADB President Takehiko Nakao. The ADB has been a longtime funder of Sri Lanka along with Japan and the World Bank.
President Sirisena whose father was a rice farmer will also tour the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines. (Colombo/Jan15/2018)
