ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's Laugfs, group said it broke ground on a 20 MegaWatt solar power plant which will cost around 5.0 billion rupees to build.
LAUGFS Chairman W K H Wegapitiya said the plant will save equivalent of about 28,000 tonnes of green house gases a year.
The plant, owned by Laugfs Power (Pvt) Ltd, is expected to generate about 40 GigaWatt hours (millions of units) of electricity a year.
The firm said Sri Lanka now had three solar power plants with a total capacity of 1.4 Mega Watts
Laugfs Power is a unit of Laugfs Gas Plc, Sri Lanka's second largest cooking gas distributor.
