ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Petroleum Resources Ministry said the state-owned refiner and petroleum retailer had enough stocks of fuel to distribute to retail outlets and that there was no shortage.
A statement said rumours being spread by interested parties were meant to create a n artificial shortage by creating a run on fuel retail outlets.
It said fuel bowers were being refilled and despatched in the normal mannar at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation fuel depots.
The ministry said motorists had begun lining up at fuel retail outlets but that there was no shortage.
The island faced a petrol shortage recently when shipments were delayed and there was temporary breakdown in refining with CPC officials blamed for not maintaining enough stocks.
