No more plastic water bottles at Presidential Secretariat
The Presidential Secretariat has decided to stop providing plastic water bottles for those who participate in various meetings and discussions, under the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Issuing a statement, the President’s Media Division (PMD) noted that the President has instructed to stop providing water bottles and provide glasses of water instead.
‘Providing plastic drinking water bottles to the participants at various discussions and meetings at the Presidential Secretariat has been in practice for a long period,” the release noted.
It went on to say that President Rajapaksa has directed the relevant authorities to provide water in glasses instead. “This will largely reduce the number of used plastic bottles added to the environment,’ the statement said.
Several environmentalists have also commended the President’s decision taken two days ago.
‘It is expected that the other State institutions too will follow suit,’ the statement added.
