No US military bases allowed in SL – Ruwan
Condemning statements made by Opposition parties and other quarters on the proposed Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijeywardene that the Government will not allow US military bases in Sri Lanka.
“The Government is not going to sign any agreement which would compromise national security and if any agreement is to be signed, I, as State Defence Minister, will seek advice from the President and the Defence Secretary,” he said.
“I have mentioned this in Parliament as well,” he added.
Wijewardene further said that the US ambassador to Sri Lanka has also made a statement in this regard.
