North and East resettlement prioritized
President Maithripala Sirisena wants practical issues around resettlement in the north and east prioritized while providing solutions.
The President gave these instructions to officials at a discussion on the northern and eastern resettlement programme held at the presidential secretariat today (11).
According to the Defence Ministry press release, he has also instructed that the meeting of the resettlement committee should be scheduled within the next two weeks, comprising the Governors of North and Eastern provinces in order to probe into local matters.
Further, President Sirisena told relevant individuals that proposals submitted to the National Committee headed by the Resettlement Minister should not be based only on reports from the divisional secretaries but also on discussions made on matters relating to divisional levels.
According to the Defence Ministry press release, the Government has prioritized the resettlement process for displaced persons in the north and east, and this discussion will cover practical matters about the resettlement process and provide solutions.
