One new COVID-19 patient in Sri Lanka, 232 active cases under treatment: NOCPOC
ECONOMYNEXT – With a returnee from India being testing positive for COVID-19, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka was at 2,881 as at 6am today.
The National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPOC) said 232 active novel coronavirus cases are being treated currently. With 16 patients returning as at 6am today, NOCPC added, total recoveries have risen to 2,638.
Recoveries in the Kandakadu cluster, meanwhile, have increased to 460, with 169 are still undergoing treatment. Some 629 patients were reported from the Kandakadu cluster, out of which 508 are detainees. Of the remainder are 67 staff members, five invited staff members, 48 close contacts and one close contact of the patient found at the Welikada prison.
A total of 342 returnees arrived in the country this morning. Of these, 290 are from Dubai, while 39 are from Chennai, India, and 13 are from Doha, Qatar.
NOCPOC said that all the returnees were directed to military-run quarantine centres upon their arrival.
Meanwhile, a total of 3,840 people are currently in quarantine in 40 military run centres.
Some 177,400 PCR testi have been carried out in the island so far with 1,370 tests conducted yesterday. (Colombo/Aug13/2020)
