President Maithripala Sirisena is calling the Parliamentary Select Committee probing the Easter Sunday attacks a “political drama.”
“It is written, produced and rehearsed at Temple Trees in the evening and enacted before the cameras in the morning,” the President thundered at a Media briefing in Colombo this morning (26).
The President repeated that he had objected to the PSC probe at the outset because Attorney General Dappula de Livera had raised his concerns about the Parliamentary inquiry.
The President pointed out that there are several petitions before the Supreme Court where he has also been named as a respondent by people affected by the attacks.
The AG had said the information being revealed at the PSC hearings were prejudicial to the upcoming Supreme Court cases.
He added that he had appointed a three-member panel to investigate lapses around the attacks and that had been set to the AG for action.
Parliament, the President said, had also asked for the report but the AG had advised against that.
