United National Front (UNF) MP Patali Champika Ranawaka, who was in remand custody over a contested motor traffic accident, was granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court a short while ago.
Ranawaka was released on a cash bail of Rs 25,000 and two surety bails of Rs 500,000 each.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Kanchana Neranjana de Silva ordered the parliamentarian to appear before the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) on the last Sunday of every month to record a statement.
The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) leader was taken into custody last week over a controversial road accident that took place in 2016. His arrest drew criticism from Opposition – largely United National Party (UNP) – lawmakers and activists.
